Charleston Riverdogs Military Family Honor

filed in

Charleston is a huge military community! There are military bases for the Air Force and Navy here as well as the Citadel Military College downtown. We even have the Army and Marine Corps close by. So, it’s safe to say, there are a lot of military families in the area. Ours is no different.

My husband served in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

We were surprised to be chosen as the Charleston Riverdogs Military Family of the game to honor my husband’s service. It was a surreal, special experience! We felt so spoiled. I asked my children what their favorite part of the game was. My little girl said Charlie the Riverdog mascot – which makes sense because all she wanted to do was hug and tickle him. My son said the silly string fight he and his sister were able to participate in. He covered his sister!

My favorite part of the night was watching my husband stand with pride while his service and achievements were shared over the speakers. It was amazing to hear the crowd cheer for him in support – at a point cheering so loud that you couldn’t even hear the announcer.

Our family will never forget that night. It was one for the books! We are so grateful to my husband’s co-worker who nominated him for this honor and to the Riverdogs for supporting military families the way they do.

Next time you get a chance, please thank a Military member for their service.
